The construction of the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Production Facility will be integrated with the Production of Polyethylene (PP) Plant (under construction), both of which are within the territory of the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP).

Currently, only low density Polyethylene can be produced in Azerbaijan. The high density polyethylene is being imported from Central Asia and Russia. Hence,  SOCAR Polymer’s Polypropylene and High Density Polyethylene plants will be the first of their kind in Azerbaijan, enabling the growth of the domestic petrochemical industry. More than 60% of the production will be exported to other countries, mainly to Turkey.

HDPE has a broad range of usage  including: sewage and water pipes, packaging, textiles, stationery, automotive components, electronic and electrical appliances, medical devices, etc. since it is waterproof, it can also be used in boat and depot constructions as well.

The contract is related to the construction of a Polypropylene / High Density Polyethylene Production Plant with a capacity of 300,000 ton/year, together with all necessary utilities and OSBL facilities. The Maire Technimont Group has undertaken the Project which will be realized in Sumgait Petrochemical Complex located at 30 km North of Baku City as EPC.

Ustay’s scope in this project includes, all earth works, piling works, civil works, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation erection works. Ustay’s scope of works shall also include pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
The PP and HDPE plants will start operations in 2018.
